ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., June 24, 2014--CNBC, First in Business Worldwide, today unveiled the results of its eighth annual list of America's Top States for Business with Georgia taking top honors. Georgia scored 1,659 out of 2,500 points.

CNBC Senior Correspondent Scott Cohn reported today live from Stone Mountain, GA and counted down the top five states throughout CNBC's Business Day programming and on CNBC.com. Coverage of America's Top States for Business will continue on-air and online through Wednesday, June 25th.

"Georgia has always been a strong performer in our rankings with its well-developed infrastructure and top notch workforce," said Cohn, who created the annual study and compiled this year's results. "For 2014, a rebounding economy propels Georgia to the top, though the state still has work to do on education and quality of life."

CNBC.com offers a detailed analysis of how Georgia claimed the top spot including a complete economic snapshot (employment, budget, tax and housing data). To determine the rankings for America's Top States for Business, each state was scored—using publicly available data—on 56 different measures of competitiveness. The initial metrics were developed in cooperation with business groups including The National Association of Manufacturersand The Council on Competitiveness. The formula is regularly updated with input from economic development experts, the states themselves, and the CNBC Global CFO Council. States received points based on their rankings in each metric, which were then separated into ten broad categories. The categories are weighted based on how frequently they are cited as selling points in state economic development marketing materials. That way, CNBC grades the states on the criteria they use to sell themselves.

미국서 가장 사업하기 좋은 주는 ‘조지아’

미국의 경제뉴스 전문방송 CNBC가 미국에서 가장 사업하기 좋은 곳으로 조지아주를 꼽았다.

방송은 24일 생방송에서 전국 50개주를 대상으로 실시한 조사에서 총점 2500점 만점에 조지아주가 1659점을 받아 새로운 챔피언에 등극했다고 보도했다.

조지아주의 지난해 성적이 8위였던 것에 비하면 장족의 발전을 이룬 셈이다.

방송은 조지아주는 노동력(Workforce) 부문에서 1위, 기반시설(Infrastructure) 부문에서 공동 1위, 경제 부문에선 3위를 기록했다고 전하고, 5월 실업율은 7.2%로 다소 높은 편이라고 소개했다. 하지만 일자리 창출이 주정부 최고의 목표인 이상 개선의 여지는 충분히 있다고 분석했다.

조지아주의 약점으로는 삶의 질(32위)과 교육(32위)이지만, 최근 교육 부문을 양성하기 위해 5억달러의 막대한 예산을 들이겠다고 발표한 바 있다고 덧붙였다.

조지아주의 개인 소득세는 6%, 기업세도 6%이며, 주 판매세는 4%다. 조지아주에서 가장 큰 부지를 소유한 기업은 델타항공이고, 가장 큰 산업분야는 농업이다. 

방송은 현재 이스라엘을 방문 중인 네이슨 딜 주지사를 위성으로 연결해 대담을 나눴다. 딜 주지사는 “조지아는 미국에서 가장 비즈니스 하기에 좋은 곳이라는 걸 전 세계에 알리고 있는데, 오늘 이 발표가 조지아에서 사업을 고려하는 분들에게 보다 쉬운 결정을 내려줄 것으로 기대된다”고 말했다.

이에 앞서 지난 2013년 11월에는 경제개발관련 유력지 ‘사이트 설렉션’이 조지아주를 가장 사업하기 좋은 주 1위로 선정해 발표한 바 있다.

UAW, 레노솔社 연방노사위원회에 고발

현대자동차 2차 협력업체로 시트 부품을 공급하는 레노솔(Renosol)이 금주간 실시할 예정이었던 노조가입에 관한 투표가 사실상 무기한 연기됐다.

셀마 타임스 저널은 이에 대해 전미자동차노조(UAW)가 레노솔社를 연방노동관계위원회(NLRB)에 고발했다고 20일자로 보도했다.

신문은 고발장에는 강압적인 행동들(감시 등), 강압적인 언사들(위협, 이권약속 등), 심문, 훈육 등이 포함돼 있다고 전했다. 하지만 고발장에 구체적인 내용이 들어있지는 않다.

NLRB가 UAW의 고발과 관련해 조사를 마치는 일정이 정해져있지 않은 관계로, 노조결성 투표는 사실상 무기한 연기된 셈이라고 NLRB 조본 래인 대변인은 말했다. 당초 노조결성 투표는 6월19-20일 열릴 예정이었다.

UAW가 레노솔에 노조를 결성하려는 움직임은 최근 몇몇 근로자들이 모회사인 리어(Lear) 경영진에 불만사항을 접수하면서 시작됐다. 접수된 불만사항은 건강과 안전 문제, 열악한 근로 조건과 낮은 임금 문제 등이었다.

현대자동차 앨라배마 공장에 시트를 납품하고 있는 리어의 몽고메리 법인장은 뉴스앤포스트와의 통화에서 레노솔의 노조결성 움직임과 관련해 “전혀 아는 바 없다”며 언급을 거부했다.

리어社의 바바라 보로프 대변인은 자체적으로 건강 및 안전과 관련해 조사를 실시했지만 “특이 사항”을 발견하지 못했다고 밝혔다.

채권단에 투자승인 요청…빠르면 내년 재개


금호타이어 조지아주 공장 설립을 6년 만에 다시 추진한다. 

22일 ‘머니투데이’ 등 한국언론에 따르면, 금호타이어는 KDB산업은행 등 채권단에 조지아공장 투자 승인을 요청했다. 금호타이어의 조지아공장은 2008년 5월 기공식을 열었지만 이후 회사가 유동성 위기를 겪으면서, 착공 4개월만에 공사가 중단됐다. 

채권단은 17일 내부회의를 열어 금호타이어의 조지아공장 투자 건을 검토했으며 자금 조달에 문제가 없으면 승인할 것으로 알려졌다. 금호타이어는 워크아웃 중이어서 신규 투자를 하기 위해서는 채권단의 승인 절차를 거쳐야 한다. 채권단 내부적으로는 반대할 이유가 없다는 입장이다. 채권단 관계자는 “공장건설에 들어가는 대규모 투자금을 어떻게 조달할지가 관건”이라고 설명했다. 

금호타이어의 이 같은 요청은 최근 자동차업계의 호황에 따라 실적이 빠른 속도로 개선되고 있기 때문이다. 워크아웃을 신청하던 지난 2009년 1천196억원의 영업손실(연결 기준)을 냈던 금호타이어는 이듬해 1천662억원의 영업이익을 거두면서 흑자를 봤다.

금호타이어가 조지아주 공장 설립에 나서면 그 시기는 올해 말이나 내년 초가 될 것으로 타이어업계는 관측하고 있다. 금호타이어는 현재 베트남, 중국 등에 생산공장을 갖고 있다.

Toyota takes 2nd place, GM is 3rd; Ford brand back up to industry average

For the first time, Hyundai-Kia group topped rival automakers in J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study, while last year’s leader, General Motors, fell to third.

Hyundai and sibling-brand Kia led the U.S. industry in five segments in the 2014 study, second only to GM’s six segment wins. The combination of the Hyundai brand’s No. 4 ranking and Kia’s sixth-place finish put the Korean manufacturer ahead of No. 2 Toyota Motor Corp., whose overall score was dragged down by its Scion brand.

The Ford brand, which had wrestled with MyFord Touch infotainment system glitches that hurt its scores in recent years, recovered to match the industry average. (Click here to see table.)

While new-vehicle launches tend to weigh down scores as consumers get acclimated to new technologies, Kia avoided that with the Cadenza -- a vehicle previously released in Korea before coming to the United States.

In contrast, GMC lost ground with the launch of its redesigned Sierra. The Sierra led the large light-duty pickup segment in 2013 but didn’t make J.D. Power’s top three pickups this year.

“Kia had a bit of help because the vehicle [Cadenza] had been in existence in Korea for a couple of years, so it’s a launch in the U.S. market but it’s not a launch of a brand-new, never-been-seen-before vehicle. That helps,” said David Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D. Power, in an interview. “Some of the imports can have a bit of a head start if they launched in their domestic market first.”

Quality scores are determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles, with lower scores signaling higher quality.

The 2014 Initial Quality Study is based on feedback from more than 86,000 buyers and lessees of new 2014 model year vehicles after 90 days of ownership. The study was conducted from February to May of this year.

Porsche, part of the Volkswagen AG, had 74 problems per 100 vehicles, the top score among brands for the second consecutive year. It was followed by Jaguar (with 87 problems), Lexus (92), Hyundai (94) and Toyota (105). 

Hyundai improved its score by 12 points, while Kia’s score remained at 106, 10 points better than the industry average. The Hyundai Accent, Elantra and Genesis as well as the Kia Cadenza and Sportage all nabbed segment wins.

“Receiving IQS awards in multiple vehicle segments acknowledges Hyundai’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction across our entire product lineup, not just our luxury vehicles,” said Dave Zuchowski, CEO of Hyundai Motor America, in a statement.

GM’s Buick Encore, Chevrolet Malibu, Chevrolet Silverado HD, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Terrain and GMC Yukon captured segment honors.

“Having the most award recipients of any automaker shows that we are on the right track by putting the customer front and center in everything we do,” said Alicia Boler-Davis, senior vice president of GM’s global quality and customer experience.

The Porsche Panamera, which won the large premium car category, was the highest-scoring vehicle overall with 62 problems reported for every 100 vehicles.

The Hyundai Accent (65) came in second, followed by the Mazda2 (66) and Chevrolet Silverado HD (68).

독립커뮤니티은행협회 선정 서브챕터S 은행순위 발표

노아은행이 자산규모가 비슷하고 기업 형태가 같은 전국의 은행들 중 지난해 가장 높은 수익률을 기록한 것으로 드러났다.

12일 독립커뮤니티은행협회(ICBA)는 협회지 ‘인디펜던트 뱅커’ 6월호에서 “노아은행이 총자산이 1억5000만~3억달러 사이인 서브챕터S 은행들 중 가장 높은 총자산이익률(ROA)인 3.26을 기록했다”고 발표했다. 총자산이익률은 당기순이익을 총자산으로 나눈 수치다. 보유한 자산을 모두 이용해 얼마나 벌었는지 나타낸다.
ICBA는 전국 6500여개 커뮤니티 은행들의 협의체다. 이 단체는 지난해 FDIC에 보고된 회원 은행들의 실적을 토대로 이번 순위를 발표했다. 

노아은행은 2013년 459만1000달러(세전)을 벌어들이며 꾸준한 성장세를 기록했다.

자산수익율 전국 1위//자본수익률도 7위

노아은행(행장 김정호.사진)이 자산수익율 은행평가에서 전국 1위를 차지했다.
노아은행은 미국 독립지역은행연합회(ICBA)가 발표한 S은행 자산대비수익율(RoA) 순위에서 자산 1억5천만달러-3억달러 부문 전국 1위를 차지했다. 자본대비수익율(RoE)에서도 24.64%로 전국 7위에 올랐다.
미국내에는 7,500여개의 은행이 있고, 이 은행들은 C은행과 S은행으로 분류된다.영업이익에 대한 세금보고를 법인이 총괄하는 은행을 C은행이라 하고, 영업이익을 주주들에게 배당해 주주들이 각자 세금보고를 하는 은행을 S은행이라 한다. 현재 미국에는 5,000여개의 C은행과 2,500여개의 S은행이 있다.
노아은행은 자산은 현재 1억7,100만달러이며, 자산대비 수익율 3.26%를 기록해 자산이 1억5천만달러에서 3억달러 사이의 은행들중 당당히 1위에 올랐다.
김정호 행장은 “후발 주자인 노아은행이 이런 영광을 차지해 자랑스럽다”면서 “경제적 불모지역인 조지아주에서 한국계 은행이 1위를 차지한 것은 특별한 의미가 있다”라고 말했다.
한편 노아은행은 존스크릭 지점 개설준비가 순조롭게 진행돼 오는 30일부터 영업을 시작하며 7월 중에 그랜드 오픈 행사를 갖는다고 밝혔다. 존스크릭 지점장에는 한국계 화교 출신인 릴리 훼이씨가 내정됐다.
